Setting Up the IntraVUE Scanner to Scan the Local Network
Configure the IntraVUE scanner to discover devices on your local network — SNMP setup, scanner speed, and defining which subnets to scan.

In this video we pick up right after registration is complete and walk through configuring the IntraVUE scanner so it can discover every device on your local network.
The first step is SNMP. IntraVUE uses SNMP to read the bridge and port tables from your managed switches, and that is what lets it build an accurate Layer 2 topology. In the scanner settings, enter the SNMP community strings your switches use — most environments start with the read-only "public" community, but if your network team has changed it, use the value they provide. You can enter several community strings and IntraVUE will try each one.
Next is scanner speed. The speed setting controls how aggressively IntraVUE pings and queries the network. On a small, healthy network you can leave it fast. On a large plant network, or one with sensitive devices, slow the scanner down so you do not add noticeable traffic. It is always safer to start slower and speed up once you have confirmed the network handles it well.
Now define the local network to scan. Enter the subnet or subnets that make up your local network — for example a /24 like 10.1.1.0. IntraVUE will scan that range, discover the devices, and query the managed switches to learn exactly which port each device connects to. If you have multiple VLANs or subnets, add each one so nothing is missed.
Once you save these settings the scanner begins discovery. Within a few minutes you will see devices appear in the topology, organized under the switch ports they are physically connected to.
